Surprises

Surprises – immediately I think of the excitement in childhood when my mother would bring something unexpected home from her mundane shopping trips – we were a large family, so treats and something out of the ordinary happened only very occasionally! However, some surprises are far from exciting and require careful management.

When doing objective personality tests or assessments there are generally some surprises in what one discovers about oneself – however, they are valuable tools to help us get another perspective on our way of being so that we can choose whether to develop or change something about ourselves in a mindful way. And, as the change is chosen, one generally has more energy to invest than when a change is forced on one.

And a personal lovely surprise yesterday was meeting someone online for the first time and enjoying an energizing and delightful journey of mutual discovery about our respective lives and what brings joy. This process grew out of the nasty surprise of lockdown – an inventive way to manage social restrictions.

These reflections are by way of encouragement to look for the positives that often grow from challenging situations
