Imposter’s Syndrome

Doing some research into Imposter’s Syndrome recently, I was thinking about the fact that this was not a “condition” even talked about when I was a psychology student. And, in a recent conversation with a colleague, we spoke about wellbeing conditions which, once given a name, can more easily be “fixed” with a pill, a therapy or a discipline. An inspiring example of how we can step beyond the limits of a “condition” was very graphically demonstrated in the recent Paralympics.

A neat way to address something we wish were different in our lives is to check the story we were told (and believed) about ourselves in formative years. Once we can recognize that we tend to reinforce the story constantly by supporting it with ongoing internal narrative, we can begin quite deliberately to rewrite the script. By deciding what sort of main character you wish to be in your own life, you can actually have quite a bit of fun creating your emancipated story – a story freed from constraints of past conditioning and negative self talk. Based on the wisdom of actual experience and taking responsibility for your Self, you can rewrite your story – and have a lot of fun in your imagination while you sift through your options and decide what characteristics and attributes you wish to develop, acquire or polish going forward into life.

Have fun rewriting your story!
