BEING HEARD

There is so much “noise” in our current world that one needs to mark out time to find peace to listen to one’s own thoughts. To REALLY listen to one’s Self is as important as listening to others.

As with all skills, stilling the mind takes practice.

During lockdown, we have had the perfect opportunity to withdraw from the outside world and be present for ourselves. However, the amount of “stuff” coming at once has intensified to such an extent that one could easily be distracted 24/7.

Actually, developing the ability to be still with oneself increases the ability to listen more actively to others. There are many programmes available to help one develop this skill – however, all are based on the principle of setting a period of time aside for one to sit in silence. If you’ve never done this before, you can start with 5 minutes during which all you do is notice what the mind is doing. The real discipline is developing the capacity to LISTEN to what the mind is doing WITHOUT the need to react. Be assured, practice is worthwhile.

Once you learn to observe your mind, you can assess and change your way of being more effectively. The dividends are multiple.
