Composition
Today I had a conversation with someone who has, in the past, had a tendency to fall into dark places from time to time. A gifted musician, we decided to look at this pattern from a different angle. What if our lives are similar to great musical compositions? How then might the various ever-changing phases of our lives be managed?
This idea seemed to flick a switch that shone a new light on the interpretation of the vagaries of their lives! There followed an immediate lightening of the atmosphere and an engagement in the conversation from a much more positive perspective.
Coaching people is partly about helping them find the “story” with which they can most easily identify; a story in which they can imagine themselves as the key character, successfully taking on challenges that stretch them into new ways to know themselves – brave hero/heroines that overcome obstacles and emerge stronger, wiser and more self-assured.
