DIAMOND “ENGAGEMENT”

Entering into a relationship with any aspect of life (whether business or personal) suggests engagement and commitment. When one speaks of “engagement” one often thinks first of a romantic relationship. However, in this post, I wish to broaden the concept to reflect on all types of relationships and use the diamond as the symbol for representing them.

The brilliant cut diamond has a broad top surface and 56 little facets cut at an angle to this top. I like to illustrate relationships with the visual image of bringing two brilliant cut diamonds to meet on the broad surfaces. In doing that, the tiny side facets will never connect. It is these tiny facets that give the diamond it’s sparkle. And so it is with all relationships – both personal or those in all “facets” of life. We relate on the broad aspects but will never meet on all possible surfaces. So those other facets remain unmet and a bit vague in any given relationship

However, the magic or sparkle of relationships lies where the tiny facets fail to meet – where the unexpected or creative elements can emerge. It’s what helps relationships to evolve continually.

Engage with the world like a shining diamond. If you are feeling stuck, connect with me at: www.margaretbarrie.com
