DIAMOND COLOURS

The next “C” word when choosing a diamond is its colour. The highest prized and pure diamonds are generally colourless, though one can find blue, pink or yellow diamonds. And the symbol of purity in life is often white and apparently one-dimensional. However, white light is of course made up of the seven colours of the rainbow and this colour spectrum is what gives our world depth, variety and stimulation.

We often use the word colour to describe things in nuanced ways – e.g. we pass tests “with flying colours” or describe eccentric people as being “colourful characters”. The natural world is by and large colourful and we respond differently to different colours in our environment – there is a psychology of colour that explores our relationship with it.

The coaching process is one way in which to get to know and appreciate our own “colourful” natures – we let light into the unknown and unexplored aspects of our beings and, through developing an appreciation of our own diverse ways of being, we get to see and respect the diversity in our world at large.
