Rainbow Series: VIOLET
The sixth colour of the rainbow is Violet – personally I never think of the colour without also picturing the flowers. My mother was particularly fond of violets and had an artificial bunch of them she often fastened on her hat! So I have always had a particular attraction to the colour.
It is symbolic of the imagination, introspection and deeper thought – it gives the impression of wisdom and knowledge that is other than rational and obvious. To some, it represents the link between the physical and spiritual realms and in Eastern philosophy, indicative of the “third eye” – through which the non-material world is experienced.
Violet is the colour of individuality and elevated status – the colour of royalty - or used for the garb of people that occupy elevated status in spiritual or religious practices – thus a colour that sets certain people apart from the general populace.
As people, we are both individual and collective. Coaching is mostly about supporting people to discover, develop and celebrate their uniqueness - what sets them apart – not so they become superior but so that they can best apply their unique traits to the better functioning of the collective. Thus violet represents the interface between immaterial self-knowledge and its material application in the physical world.
